Sharing thanks for the Pittsburgh duck at night!

Pittsburgh Duck at night at Point Park.

I was thankful to get to see the Pittsburgh duck before it swam away on my recent trip to this fun city. My older daughter is a senior at the University of Pittsburgh and we went to visit her during parents weekend. We were lucky to be able to stay at the Grand Wyndham hotel across the street from Point Park. I was amazed how many families and people came to see the duck. We had stayed here in the Spring and the park was empty. Here is what I was thankful for in Pittsburgh.
  1. I am thankful for the artist, Florentijn Hofman, for creating this floating art installation. Hofman says, "The friendly, floating, four-story-high Rubber Duck has healing properties!" The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust brought the duck to Pittsburgh to kick off the Pittsburgh International Festival of Firsts. It is estimated that over 1 million people have gone to see the duck in Pittsburgh. I am grateful for installation artists whose work inspires us to experience something new. It is my belief that we have fond memories of rubber ducks. They are fun to play with in the bathtub! This floating installation art was conceived in 2007 and has graced the harbors in Amsterdam, Lonmel, Osaka, Sydney Harbour, Sao Paulo and Hong Kong. This has been its first trip to the United States.
  2. I was thankful that it stopped raining during the Pitt game. I enjoyed watching my husband strut his stuff in the half-time show with my daughter Becky's marching band. All the dads looked proud, dancing to, "Men in Tights." The Pitt band's Mel Brooks half-time show was a big hit to the audience on family weekend!
  3. I was thankful to see the fountain lit up at night at Point Park. It was recently renovated. I love sight and sounds of a fountain. The night colors were luminous.
  4.  I was thankful to visit my daughter Becky. We loved hearing her sing at the University Store's grand opening. She has thrived at the University of Pittsburgh.
I invite you to share a piece of artwork your thankful for. Art speaks to us on an emotional level. I love hearing your gratitude stories!

  1. I'm live near Pittsburgh (Beaver County) and I am so bummed that I didn't get to see the duck. My daughter would've LOVED it, but it just didn't work out with our schedule to see it before it left :(
I love marching bands and Robinhood: Men in Tights, so I think that halftime show sounds fabulous!
I'm guessing you're not a Pittsburgh blogger since you said that you came to visit. Do you live elsewhere in PA? I always love finding other local bloggers :)
Even though my comment sounds more like a complaint I'm thankful that YOU got to see that super cool giant duck ;)
