Sharing thanks for homemade gifts from the heart!

Image
A journal half homemade by my daughter Liz Sometimes the best gifts are those that come from the heart. This year my husband's family decided to do a homemade gift swap at our after Christmas party. I enjoyed watching my daughters and husband figuring out what they could make and bring for this gift exchange. It was fun to watch everyone around the kitchen table making their homemade gifts for the party! I've been busy enjoying the holidays, seeing close friends and family. I have so many reasons to be thankful, its difficult to pick just 4 for this post! I am thankful for all the gifts I have received this holiday. We are a family that is a tapestry of religions. Our best holiday is when we are all together celebrating! I loved hearing all of the voices at my Christmas Eve Party belting out  "Oh Chanukah, Oh Chanukah!" and "The 12 Days of Christmas" I was thankful to do a bit of reorganizing before the holiday party and found Holiday songbooks I had m

I am thankful for seeing this Piano Guys playful video of  "Angels We Have Heard on High." These vibrant  classical musicians are using their talents to inspire young musicians. Singing outside with a group of family friends warmed my soul. This week seems all about music to me so here are my musical thanks! Thanks to my violin piano student Irina! Sharing thanks for taking time to Stop and Smile!

Image
A good reminder that it is always a good idea to Stop and Smile! I love learning to appreciate the little things in life. Everyday I walk my dog around the neighborhood and it  amazes me how when I really pay attention I notice new things to appreciate. I must have passed this stop sign hundreds of times. Today I noticed this smile attached to it. I do not recommend doing graffiti on traffic signs. I'm sure its considered a crime. However, this sign got me thinking that it's always a good idea to stop and smile! I recommend doing a gratitude walk. Walk in a familiar place and stop and notice the beauty, people, sounds, smells that you are thankful for! It will help you focus on what resonates with you. Here is what I was thankful for on my gratitude walk. I am thankful to see this stop sign, which literally made me stop and smile, and take a picture with my camera! My older daughter is a senior at the University of Pittsburgh and we went to visit her during parents weekend. We were lucky to be able to stay at the Grand Wyndham hotel across the street from Point Park. I was amazed how many families and people came to see the duck. We had stayed here in the Spring and the park was empty. Here is what I was thankful for in Pittsburgh. I am thankful for the artist, Florentijn Hofman, for creating this floating art installation. Sharing thanks for helping hands!

I enjoyed seeing this video on the Huffington Post's Good News this morning. When we are helping each other we inspire others to lend a helping hand. I was in Chicago helping my daughter move apartments. She is a college freshman and had a difficult first room mate experience.I am not going to focus on her negative room mate experience, instead I want to thank all the people who helped her move into new apartment with new suite mates. Thanks to the staff at the Residence Center at Columbia College who found a good alternative housing for my daughter. They listened to my daughter's concerns, reassured her, encouraged her, and found an alternate placement quickly. Thanks to her RA Nick, who helped us move these huge boxes to her new building. We all looked like keystone cops, with these boxes on dollies moving through the streets of Chicago. Thanks to some kind strangers who stopped to help us get the boxes back on the dollies when they fell off.  Thanks to my friend Stell

Baskets of apple's at Jo Jo Apple's in Point Lookout I am here to report that their is kindness in the big city of Chicago! I have so many reasons to be thankful today. It is easy to write this blog post because my gratitude is over flowing today. Thank you to Gene!!! Gene found my daughter's wallet in a cab. He contacted my daughter's podiatrist in Chicago since it had a local phone number to report finding her wallet. The podiatrist called me to give me his contact info. Gene took the time to bring the wallet to my daughter at her apartment at Columbia College. He wanted to make sure Liz got the wallet because there was over $100 in the wallet along with her bank card. This random act of kindness will never be forgotten. I am grateful for all of the rebuilding that has been done at Long Beach. I went for a stroll on the new boardwalk yesterday. It was wonderful to see the people out enjoying the sunshine, a sparkling calm ocean, and this new beautiful wide boar

My dad, taking us for a boat ride on Loon Lake! I realized I have been blogging a lot about being by the water. I guess that makes sense since I am an Aquarius. Loon Lake in the Adirondacks is one of my favorite places to boat, swim, kayak, and jump off the dock to feel like I'm 11 again. My daughter Becky wanted to spend sometime upstate since she missed our July 4th outing. I enjoyed another girls only road trip up to the Adirondacks. Here is what I was thankful for! I am sure my parents cats, Beauty and Mittens were happy to see Oreo go home! Thanks to my parents for taking us out to the Stony Creek Inn for some music and Mexican food. Waiting for the fireworks at Schroon lake.  I love being able to take vacation over the summer. Our family is so lucky to have a retreat in the Adirondack's. Over 20 years ago my parents bought a house in the country nestled in the Adirondacks next to a small stream. My kids have always loved visiting Grannie and Papa Ron in the country house. We were fortunate to be able to spend July 4th weekend upstate. Here is what I was thankful for! I was thankful for the patriotic upstate Adirondack spirit. You can see fireworks every night for a week in the country. All the small towns have July 4th celebrations, chicken barbecues, small parades. It was fun to see so many people at Schroon Lake dressed in red, white and blue! I was thankful to get parking at Schroon Lake. We were so lucky to get a good spot for an easy walk to the beach. Sharing thanks for the rebuilt boardwalk at Jones Beach

Image
New Boardwalk at Jones Beach It was a beautiful sunny weekend on Long Island this weekend. If you live on Long Island one of the best beaches to go to is Jones Beach State Park. Hurricane Sandy destroyed the boardwalk, and some of the roads on Ocean Parkway. Growing up on Long Island I have many fond memories of Jones Beach. As a kid my mom used to take us to Jones Beach everyday over the summer. I remember the craft Tee-Pee, swimming in the salt water pool, the pitch and putt golf course, the playgrounds, shuffleboard, paddle tennis, and listening to music in the band shell. It is a wonderful place to go at night with your family to have some reasonable fun. I think it costs $2 to play shuffle board. Here is what I am thankful for after my recent trip to Jones Beach. Thanks to the people who rebuilt the boardwalk. I enjoyed seeing the flags flying! The beach was crowded and the boardwalk was filled with families with strollers, seniors enjoying a stroll, and college kids! Thank

Here is what I thankful for yesterday. Thanks to my daughter's creativity. I got 2 home made cards from my daughter's yesterday. Whats cool about this is Becky is 21, and Liz is 18. Gifts from the heart always make me smile. Becky drew a picture and is taking me out to lunch. Liz painted me a picture with a heartfelt note. Saw a beautiful crescent moon last night as we were driving home from my mother-in-laws last night. That glimmer of light is always so breathtakingly beautiful. Thanks to my sister-in-law Laurie who made a delicious turkey dinner with all of the trimmings for Mother's Day! Thanks to all my wonderful friends who are also moms who set me beautiful message
